Stop in, look around, have a drink and crank some tunes. I'll be posting some songs ripped from records, some out of print and hard to find stuff, some songs by artists you should be listening to, and a few mixes here and there.

Mighty Marvel Marching Society
I love the classic Marvel look and stories. Here is a song from a floppy record that was given out to members of the Mighty Marvel Marching Society, the Marvel Comics fan club in the 60's. I'm a little confused about the exact name of the song. The envelope says Scream Along With Marvel, but the record says March-A-Long With Marvel. I guess I'll call it the March-A-Long... Check out the awesome artwork on this. I've slowly been collecting things from the MMM's when I find them. Good stuff. Sorry, I don't know who the singers are.

Sour Notes & Other Delights
Keeping with that Tijuana sound... Here we have The Frivolous Five. It's pretty funny. When Whip Cream & Other Delights was still a big album, I'd have liked to put this one on the turntable at a party and watch peoples reaction. Here are six tracks from the album complete with a Beatles cover.

The Complete Colonel
Wow! When I first posted this one, I didn't think it would make the splash it did. I received a bunch of emails to have the whole thing posted. Who knew the Colonel still had such star power? Well here it is.

Oooooooow!
Pardon my French, but my fuckin' back is killing me. I was lugging around heavy Ikea boxes last weekend. Why do they have to be so freeking heavy? Sorry for not getting the new music up. I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Fireball 500
Frankie...? Check! Annette...? Check! Wisecracking beach movie. Umm... No. American International tries something different with the main actors from the beach movies and comes up with something more serious. Still fun to watch but not in the same league as Bikini Beach or Beach Blanket Bingo.

Thunder Alley
Their god is speed...Their pleasure is an "anytime" girl! Damn there are some great cars in this movie. What is it with these American International films that make them so fun to watch? These two songs are from the DVD. I've seen the record around but unfortunately I don't have it (yet). My process is this. I look on IMDB to find the soundtrack listings and then I set out to find the songs. If I miss some in the movie, leave a comment and I'll try and locate it. This time IMDB gave me some bad info because there was only one song by Annette Funicello, not two. It also didn't give me the band that did the Thunder Alley theme song. My question to you, my intelligent readers, is this... Who sang the theme song and what is the exact name of the song? I have it listed below with a question mark until someone gives me the correct answer. TIA!

Cycledelics :: Crazy Wheels
I'm lucky I don't get paid for this because I'd probably be fired by now. I lost my notes on this one so the band name might be misspelled... It's my brother's 45 and I don't have it in front of me to get the exact info. The record is a dusty 7 inch with no sleeve. The band is The Cycledelics (that is the name but there my be a different way to spell it) and the song is Crazy Wheels. The song is not sure if it wants to be surf/drag or psychedelic. It will grow on you.

The Call Of The Wildest
I guess I'm still in a Vegas mood so I'm going to post a few songs from Louis Prima. Louis and Keely Smith just had such a great energy together. This is a great cover too. Note, they didn't give Louis a shadow when they placed him in the picture...
LOUIS PRIMA :: WHEN YOU'RE SMILING AND THE SHEIK OF ABBY
LOUIS PRIMA :: I'VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING
LOUIS PRIMA :: PENNIES FROM HEAVEN

Mail Bag
I've meet some really cool people doing this blog. One of my favorite things is when people send me songs that relate to posts. I thought I'd throw a few up with their permission.
My new friend Mel has sent over four Jerry Lewis songs from the 1950's. He knows I'm a big Jerry fan. Thanks. I'm not sure where Mel is from, but I don't think he is from the U.S.
JERRY LEWIS :: CRAZY WORDS, CRAZY TUNE
JERRY LEWIS :: I KEEP HER PICTURE HANGING UPSIDE DOWN
JERRY LEWIS :: THE BOOK WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE PICTURE
JERRY LEWIS :: I LOVE A MURDER MYSTERY
Toby from North Carolina sent over a song from Ski Party. That's one of the songs I couldn't get off of my DVD. He has a cool blog called Write Fink. Check it out.
THE HONDELLS :: THE GASSER
Finally we come to a song from Craig in Ft. Worth. He has taken the song Blast Off from Adventures In Space And Sound (posted below) and remixed it. I think he did a great job and I'd like to hear more remixes of songs off of this blog. If anyone sends them in, I'll throw them up.

Ben, Most People Would Turn You Away...
Crispin Glover is one bizarre dude. Thrust into the mainstream with the Back To The Future movies and many appearances on David Letterman, he is anything but mainstream. He was in a sleeper movie called Willard in 2003, a remake of a movie with the same name in 1971. I'm not sure if I would recommend the movie because it's not for everyone. I liked it and I like him. It's about a lonely guy who befriends the rats in his mother's basement. During the end credits of this movie, Crispin covers Michael Jackson's song Ben. As far as I know, this song has not appeared on a cd anywhere. This is from the DVD.

The Sorry State of Country Music
I'll try and keep this brief. I know there are countless bloggings out there reporting how country music now days has totally turned it's back on the classic country greats. Yes, Johnny Cash is getting his props, and he should because he is the best. Besides that, I just don't get it. I am a huge fan of classic country. Cash, Buck Owens, George Jones, etc. I'll also admit that I don't follow newish country music. This is mostly because it now sounds like lite-rock shit to me. I know there are always some exceptions to the rule but I don't even have the ambition to find who they are. Bands like The Old 97's and Uncle Tupelo sound more like country than the new "country stars." Anyway. Enough about that. Here is my story.
I was just in Vegas this past weekend. After starting the boozing at around noon on Saturday, my friends and I found ourselves on the strip by Treasure Island at around 2:30am Sunday morning. (Hey, It's Vegas. Time is pretty much irrelevant). I look down the strip towards downtown and I see it. The beautiful neon goodness of the classic Frontier casino sign. It hits me like a ton of bricks. Vintage Vegas + Vintage Country must certainly = Great music. So we stumble there (and believe me, things in Vegas are further than they seem). For those of you who don't know, the Frontier is an older casino on the strip in Vegas with a Western Theme. In the Frontier there is a Gilley's bar. The bar chain was made famous by Urban Cowboy and were pretty big in the country western fad around the time of that movie. They have a mechanical bull, I big dance floor, tons of rowdy dudes in cowboy hats. After watching the line dancing to a bunch of "country" songs that I've never heard, I decide to take a stroll over the the dj. Please note. I wasn't going over there to ream him about the music. This is obviously what country fans listen to so that's fine with me. I'm the outsider. I only asked the dj. "Can we get a little Johnny Cash?" Without missing a beat the guys gives me a really cold "No." Surely he was joking. Even the most un-knowledgeable country loving fan would love to hear (and dance to) Cocaine Blues or Jackson or Ring of Fire. He caught me off guard. Because I didn't leave right away, he looked back and said, "Not at 3am, maybe at 5pm." Already knowing his answer, I threw out, "How about Buck Owens?" "These people don't even know who that is!" he said back to me.
So I say to you. What is wrong with country music today? It doesn't seem to me that people that are into rock music turn their back on the pioneers of their music... Put a fork in it. Country is done. I wish they would just change the name and call it something new.
Time to get off my soap box. Sorry about the preaching. As you can tell from my normally short posts, I usually don't have a lot to say and my grammar is dreadful.

Jayne Busts Up Las Vegas
I'm going back to Vegas tomorrow morning. In honor of the trip I'm throwing up Jayne Busts Up Las Vegas. I had higher hopes for this record to tell you the truth. It's a live recording of a cabaret-style musical. When I listen to it, I'm never exactly sure what is going on. It's still really good though and a great time piece.

Adventures In Sound And Space
Adventures In Sound And Space is another kids record about space but aimed at kids a little older than the last record I posted here, just sound effects and dialog. Pretty good. Lots of samples if you are into that.
