Stop in, look around, have a drink and crank some tunes. I'll be posting some songs ripped from records, some out of print and hard to find stuff, some songs by artists you should be listening to, and a few mixes here and there.

A Groovy Frontier

Check this out Trekkies. Here is the Star Trek theme by a band called The Secret Agents. Groovy! I took this off a record called Mission Impossible and Other Action Themes. Sorry, I don't have a scan of the cover.

I Tell Ya I'm Alright Now But Last Week...

Rappin' Rodney... It is a little sad that the late, great Rodney Dangerfield felt like he had to put out a rap song. I guess it's not so much rap as it is just 80's pop I guess. Doesn't matter, Rodney makes it great. This is a rip off of his 1983 record.

The 3 Stooges

Here is a track I ripped in from The 3 Stooges album from 1959. I wish it had Curly instead of Curly Joe, but hey, what can you do? Pretty good, but it's just not the same if you can't watch them beat the shit out of each other.

Johnny Cash 45 Art

Some of my favorite collectibles right now are 45 rpm records with picture sleeves. Most have really cool publicity shots that you just don't see anywhere else. They are not in the best condition, but I'm going to post some every once in awhile. The first gallery here is Johnny Cash.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

Sergio has a new cd that is causing some buzz and I'm really happy for him. I'm really glad to see him get credit he deserves. But I'm not here to pump his new stuff. I'm here to hype Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. This is what started it all. A great mix of Latin beats + lounge + sexy female lead singers + elevator music... The album is great, so of course, it's out of print. He has always been a guilty pleasure, but definitely not for everyone. If you are going to buy a cd, a great starting point is their Greatest Hits. Here are a couple of tracks so you can test them out.

Star Wars : Return Of The Jedi : Read Along

There you go. Your journey to the dark side is almost complete. Here is the third in the original trilogy, and quite frankly, isn't it the ONLY trilogy? It is pretty funny how they skim over a bunch of events because they are under such a time crunch. Buena Vista Records read-along version of Star Wars - Return of the Jedi. 7" : 33 1/3 RPM. I also have some other read-along records like these I'm going to rip; Star Wars' ABCs, Star Wars' Colors and Shapes, Droid World, Planet of the Hojibs, etc.

The King In Plastic

McFarlane Toys has a really cool Elvis figure out. Actually it's been out for awhile... The 6 inch version has been out for a year and you can find it on a few clearance bins. The 12 inch version came out last August. McFarlane Toys does a really good job on the packaging too. Most of the plastic crack that I buy from them I don't open, just hang it on the wall by the hang tab.

Beastie Bytes

The Beasties have free A Capella sound byte downloads that you can you for remixes. Kinda cool.

DEV2.0

It's out and I have to get this just out of morbid couriosity. Devo re-recorded a bunch of their songs with kid singers for Disney Records and it's called DEV2.0. I have no problem with this. I have a son who is almost 19 months old and this might be a refreshing change from hearing The Wiggles 24/7.

Star Wars : The Empire Strikes Back : Read Along

This is another rip for you. Buena Vista Records read-along version of Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back. 7" : 33 1/3 RPM. Sometimes the voice over guy almost sounds like he's trying to talk while having the dry-heavs. I'll be posting The Return of the Jedi in a few days. Someday I want to scan in these books.

The Beasties + The Beatles

djBC has just released his second mix of Beastie Boy and Beatles mash-ups. They are suprisingly really good. Both mixes are free to download at his website.

Laser Turntable

I'm not sure why I'm so suprised by this... A record player that reads the music with lasers, not a needle. This LT would be great, but with a price tag over ten grand. I'll be getting one, um, never...

Star Wars : A New Hope : Read Along

This was ripped from a Buena Vista Records read-along version of Star Wars - A New Hope. 7" : 33 1/3 RPM. The sound effects and voice actors all sound pretty good, except for Darth. He's a little lame. I'll be posting The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in a few days. These read-along records really bring me back. This stuff was really exciting to me as a kid. Was I a dork? Yep...

Check out They Might Be Giants website for free mp3s and keep checking back because they always change. Also, they have just released their third podcast today on iTunes. Fun, unreleased and live stuff.

Six-Pack Family Plannin'

It's about time. Southern Culture on the Skids is putting out a live cd. I've probably seen them five times and they are always a hoot; flying pieces of fried chicken and oatmeal pies everywhere. Here is a picture I took of Rick, the lead singer, and my cousin John. How can I describe them? Hillbilly + Blues + Country Twang... Remember Otis the drunk from Mayberry? It would be his favorite band if he was alive today. If you pre-order the cd at Yep Roc Records, you get three extra live tracks. Get it!

Here are a couple of my favorite songs. Shotgun from Plastic Seat Sweat and My House Has Wheels from Ditch Diggin'.

Two Wrongs Make A Right?

20 best mash-ups of 2005 free for download. Check it out here. It's funny how that when you take a song by Kelly Clarkson, manufactured suck, and mash it wish Depeche Mode and it actually becomes palateable. My personal favorite is The Ying Yang Twins + The Cure and Coldplay + Kraftwerk.

Burned!

Brian Joseph Davis has taken 10 albums that have been censored at some point, burned them, and then tried to record what he could off of the messed-up record. Kinda cool.

George Barris

I met George Barris at a car show last Sunday. If you are unfamiliar with him, he is the man who has built the coolest custom tv cars ever; The Batmobile, The Monkeemobile, The Munster's Coach and Dragula and many more. I have been a fan of his forever. That's Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster) in the background of the second picture. Here are some covers to tv themes that he has been involved with. The Batman Theme is by The Marketts and taken from The Batman Theme Played By The Marketts. The Munsters Theme is by one of my favorite bands, Los Straitjackets and off of Halloween Hootenany.

Vegas Tomorrow

I'm heading to Vegas tomorrow morning for a much anticipated vacation with some really good pals. I'm getting revved up by listening to some live Rat Pack. I wish there was still some of this swinger charm left. I've looked. There really isn't and that is kind of sad. Oh well. Here are three mp3s from Dean, Frank and Sammy. They are all live and they are all from the Sands. The Dean Martin song is from Dean Martin Live From Vegas. This is a really good sounding live cd. Dean does more clowning than singing. The Sinatra song is from Sinatra At The Sands. This has to be one of the best live cds I own. It sounds great. The Sammy song is from Sammy & Friends.
